Egg of P'an Ku v. 0.9.42 Ready!

Link to newest version
Egg of P'an Ku  (ver. 0.9.42)
Yes, I know that it's been some time.  I've been doing other things and there hasn't been a lot of changes in the L5R card world.  Other than a printer change, but that doesn't really effect the Egg of P'an Ku application.
I've been working with Jeff Jung (owner of Kamisasori.net) on getting some changes into the application, but for the most part, you wont see a large change right off.

Change List
The biggest changes that you are going to notice are:
Rarity, Flavor Text and Artist!
  • I've changed the card info window to include Rarity, Flavor Text, and Artist (if available).
    • Jeff is adding these items to the cards.xml and they will probably be available when the next version of the Egg cards.xml is posted.
  • I have also added a rarity filter to the deck editor.  While this might not be 100% useful when building a deck, it is quite useful for other tasks.
  •  I added a "Help" menu item that points to the website (and a link to donate to the project)
  • I also removed the link to the EggUpdater inside of Egg.  You will now need to run the updater with Egg closed.
Some of the changes that you can't see:
  • The EggUpdater will now start an outside process (copyninja.exe) to update itself.
  • I changed the update.xml file to make the updates easier to manage.
  • Updating now has an option of updating ALL optional items.
    • Do this only if you really want everything (images packs, etc)
    • The normal updater will only update the game files and the cards.xml files.
  • I added a check for the playtesters, to allow them to encrypt the playtest data files.
As always, I would be happy to get feedback on this version and ideas on continuing the work.

New Database Available

There's a new database available over at Kamisasori.net with all "The Plague War" cards in it.  Here's a link directly to the file: Celestial-only database

Download it and run the egg updater to get the new filters.xml file as well.
I am looking into an issue with the Egg Updater where it's not updating all the files properly.  If you are having troubles, you can get the right-click this link (Filters.xml) and "Save Link (Target) As..." to get the newest filters.xml file.

Once, you're done with that, go update your decks and lets play!

Interested in paying for a Hamachi network?

Taking Donations
For most of us, Hamachi is the default VPN client for playing Egg of P'an Ku online.  There is a free version and lots of user created networks.  This includes the 4 Egg of P'an Ku networks that I run.

One main issue with these free networks is that they are limited to 16 connections maximum at one time.  This means that they fill up fast and once full, others cannot join until someone leaves.  I try to boot all the users that are not online at least once a day, but it still fills up fast.

It has been suggested to me that we try to take up donations and purchase a paid network.  This would allow up to 256 users to log on and stay joined to the network.  Jonas and I talked about this at the Abbotsford Kotei ( Congrats on the 2nd place finish Jonas) and I am going to start taking donations through Paypal for those that are interested.

Some quick math shows me that: ($33 per month for the network)/16 users (max number in unpaid network) = $2.06 per user per month will suffice.  This is what it would cost if you had to pay a monthly fee to use one of the Egg networks.  I would suggest a donation of $5-$10 if you are able to cover multiple months.

I will make public the amount of donations and all monies will be put back into monthly or yearly payments for the network.

Want to Donate?
Donations can be made through PayPal by using the Donate button on the right, or you can use this link: Hamachi Network Donation. I will create and open the network once we get enough to pay for the first month (US$33.00) .

Please let me know if you have any questions about this. You can send me email: tatsuya@eggofpanku.com or IM me (Tatsuya) on Hamachi.

New Version of Egg of P'an Ku (0.9.32)

Version 0.9.32
I added a few new features and fixed a terrible bug that I introduced some time ago.  While this isnt a major change in the Egg application itself, it is a major change.  You will still be able to play using the last version (0.9.22), if you don't want to download and install this new version.

What's New!
I have added an update application to update Egg auto-magically. When run, it goes out to the Egg website and checks the version and date of files that you have locally, against files on the server and then updates them if need be.

This will allow us to make updates in several ways:
  1. We can update the Egg files without having to reinstall the whole application.
  2. We can update the cards.xml files as new ones come out.
  3. The Deck Editor filter list should be updated correctly and quickly when a new set comes out.
  4. We can download images files to your computer when you are missing them.
This updater will be accessible from the "File" menu in Egg, from the command line, or a link on the start menu.

I am looking to here your feedback on this, so please send me any issues or bugs you may find.

I also fixed a bug that wasn't showing the face down provinces correctly when you used the "show to opponent" right-click menu item.  This was mainly an issue when using Hidden Moon Dojo, but with more ninjas in the mix, I thought I would get it fixed.

That's about it.

The new install for Egg is located on the Egg of P'an Ku website or on the google code site (http://code.google.com/p/eopk).

Thoughts?

EggUpdater Application in the works

EggUpdater

I've been working the last few days on an application that will easily update Egg of P'an Ku application files (and related files).  This should make it easier to publish bug fixes and updates to the code.

It should also make it easier to keep up to date with new cards.xml files and update your images as well.

While it is not available to everyone, I am looking for a couple people to help me out in testing this.
Drop me a note if you're interested at tatsuya@eggofpanku.com.

The Harbinger is ready to go!

New Card Database
With the Harbinger being released, I wanted to let everyone know that there is a new cards.xml file available at Kamisasori.net

New Filter File
Along with the new cards.xml file, you will want to download the new Filters.xml from the Egg of P'an Ku site.
This file should be saved in the Egg of P'an Ku application directory (overwrite what's there).

The Filters.xml file allows you to filter on card types and sets in the deck editor.  If you don't download it, Egg will still work properly, you just won't be able to sort on cards in The Harbinger set.

Also, Happy New Year to everyone.

Good Luck!

New Egg of Pan Ku Blog

Location Change

Well, after much thought, I have moved the Egg of Pan Ku blog to a blogger site.

I have been trying to consolidate much of my blogging sites and make posting easier (and more regular).  Blogger.com offers a lot more flexibility than the DNN News Articles module that I was using on the Egg of Pan Ku site.

While I have not deleted the old articles (blog posts) they are no longer readily available to view.  If you must see them, contact me and I will see what I can do.

Even more ways to follow Egg of Pan Ku
I have set up a twitter account for Egg of Pan Ku (eggofpanku).  I'll fix the page template soon, so it looks a bit better.
You can also find all the Egg of Pan Ku tweets by searching #eggofpanku

Look forward to upcoming announcements and information soon.....
